Dr. Caroline Rickards received her PhD from RMIT University in Melbourne, Australia in 2005. She was a postdoctoral fellow at the US Army Institute for Surgical Research, and a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Texas at San Antonio before joining UNTHSC in 2012. In addition to her active research program, Dr. Rickards teaches cardiovascular and respiratory physiology to medical and graduate students, including the Master’s in Medical Sciences and traditional PhD/MS programs.

 

Dr. Rickards is an active member of her local and professional communities. She is currently vice-chair of the North Texas Regional IRB, and she was chair of the UNTHSC School of Biomedical Sciences Values Committee, a member of the Faculty Senate, and founding member of the Early Career Development Council and Women Faculty Network. Dr. Rickards is Chair of the Cerebrovascular Research Network (CARNet), and Program Working Group representative for the Exercise & Environmental Physiology Section of the American Physiological Society (APS). She serves on the editorial board of the American Journal of Physiology - Regulatory, Integrative and Comparative Physiology, and just completed a 6 year term on the editorial board of the Journal of Physiology.

 

In her spare time, Dr. Rickards enjoys spending time with her family (including 2 rescue dogs), enjoying a good meal with family and friends, hitting the hiking trails, and exploring new places around the world (4 continents, 35 US states, and 21 US national parks so far).
